Old Hat

I was just flipping through a digital photo blog i sort of like (they had one entry on why digital is better than film, which is why they will never rank very high on my list of favourites, but they do have some interesting posts occasionally) when i happened upon this entry:

http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2009/02/how-to-shoot-cl.html

It tells you how to make any lens for an slr into a macro lens.
just want to say, been there, done that.
Marcy James taught me that trick a few years ago.
it is a pretty cool trick though, and it's pretty ghetto-tastic. if you're too lazy to read the blog, here's how it works:
take your lens off the camera body. flip it around, and hold it up to your camera body, shooting through it backwards. you can still see just fine, but you want to make sure you have it held pretty securely against the camera, because if it leaves a small gap for light your exposure is going to be f*ed.
focus isn't very easy to execute... it's better to just move the camera closer or further away from the object your shooting.

there's a little smattering of geeky-tastic goodness for you all :)
i have had a small opportunity to shoot some stuff recently, i just need to get to printing it and scanning some of it, finding my USB cord for my nikon so i can actually get images off of it.
we'll see what happens. been feeling driven to procrastinate a lot lately...

just to add to the ghetto-goodness of that photograph, i want to make a point of saying that i shot it on the floor of my room in front of a sheet with a desk lamp shining onto it.
I'm super proud of that image.
